Springtime Colds and How to Avoid & Treat Them

Springtime Colds and How to Avoid & Treat Them

The weather is changing and even though it’s beautiful, sometimes a cold can catch you off guard and completely throw your workout routine off. No one has time for this, so here are some great tips to help you avoid that annoying sickness. One thing you can do to boost your immune system is to take advantage of the honey bees’ hard work! Each morning and night, take a tablespoon of raw honey with a ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon and you’ll give your body some real weapons to fight off sickness before it shows up. Of course, you need to wash your hands and avoid touching your face or mouth (the same advice we give our kids,) but this is a dietary tool you can use for nearly every age group, except the very young who are not physically prepared to ingest honey. Sleep is so important and so is drinking water! Yes, those TV series are really fun to watch, but staying up too late to watch them is not doing your body any favors. If you can get a healthy eight hours of sleep a night, then do it. This is when your body works on itself, boosts its healing throughout the body and ensures that it has the strength to fight off many of the common sicknesses that occur each year. Water flushes your body out and doesn’t allow germs and other things to build up. Drink a gallon a day if at all possible and not only will you be more hydrated, but you’ll feel better and have more energy. Try it and see—test your workout strength after drinking a day of nothing but soda and sugary drinks and then try a workout after a day of drinking nothing but water. It makes a difference! They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but so does green tea! A cup of green tea a day, either hot or cold, is a serious boost for your entire immune system. You can add some honey if you need a little more sweetness, but this is an inexpensive addition you can make to your diet that will give you benefits all day long. Use these tips and hopefully you can avoid that “springtime” cold just because the weather can’t seem to make up its mind. In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you at the gym for those endorphin-boosting workouts—here’s to your health!
