Pete Bakis, General Manager & CEO

Pete Bakis was 9 years old when he came to the United States from Rhodes, Greece to live with his aunt and uncle to pursue his education. He received his AS in Science from Yuba College and his BS from U.C. Davis in Biochemistry. He has 18 years experience in all aspects of the health and fitness industry and has been with the Yuba City Racquet club since 1984. Pete enjoys golf, tennis, computers and gardening in his spare time.


Charlotte Hammons, Accountant & CFO

Our Chief Financial Officer and Human Resources Director Charlotte Hammons has been with us since March 1st of 1990, and from the club’s view it is hard to imagine life without her. Charlotte handles the entire bulk of billing for our membership directory as well as other crucial elements such as payroll and collections. Born in Marysville, Charlotte graduated from Marysville High School and then Yuba College with an emphasis in Accounting. She has a loving husband, Dave, and 2 sons, Mike and Ron (who are also in the accounting fields). For her, hobbies like walking, yoga, boating, and tennis help her to keep her mind off the numbers and relax a bit.


Becky Ray, Membership Director

Becky Ray is our Director of Sales and Marketing.  She procures new memberships and helps current members with any changes to their existing memberships.  Born and raised in Yuba City, Becky worked six years for us until 1997, when she relocated to Chico to pursue her Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a Paralegal Certificate as well.  She returned to us in August of 2002 and began her current position in September of 2003.  Her hobbies include spending time with her friends and family, tennis, shopping, movies, and reading.  "I love Yuba City," she says, "because of my great family, friends and the Racquet Club!"


Victoria Kuiken, Membership Services

Having been in the fitness industry for the last 14 years, Victoria Kuiken, more commonly known as Vickie, is our Member Service Director. Vickie is responsible for the delicious workings found in the deli as well as handles the front desk's scheduling, traffic volume, and day-to-day processes and operations as well as sales, members' services, and coordinates special events. She began working with us in February of 1989 just shortly after moving out to our area from her native Minnesota. Born in Olivia, Minnesota, Vickie is joined here in town by her husband Don and children Stephanie, Ashley and Christopher. For Vickie the best ways to relax include playing tennis, snow skiing, camping and swimming.


Jim King, Tennis Director

As Director of Tennis at the Yuba City Racquet Club, Jim King is proud to provide many special tennis programs such as Junior After School, Beginner, and Advanced Adult lessons and leagues. Jim was raised in San Diego and served in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Beale AFB from 1984-1988. He earned his AA degree from Yuba College in 1989, and his BA in Physical Education from Chico State in 1992. He is also a member of U.S.P.T.A., a certified Teaching Tennis Professional and is the Yuba City High School Boys Tennis Coach. Jim takes “personal pride” in cultivating growth and development for all those he teaches, from the very young to those who pick up tennis in their later years. Jim feels very blessed and he states that, “It’s a very rewarding profession.”   His hobbies include tennis (of course), snow skiing, fishing and concerts.


Beth McLean, Fitness Director

Beth has been a Racquet Club employee since 1990 and has enjoyed watching all the changes in fitness that has happened over the years. She is currently the fitness director and handles most of the fitness related programs and trainers. Beth is certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise, Medical Exercise Specialist, and the Les Mills programs including Body Flow and Body Pump. Beth and her husband, Rich, have 7 children between them and when not working they are enjoying time together or with family.


Cyndi Shatswell, Group Exercise Director

Cyndi Shatswell brings a wealth of education to the Yuba City Racquet Club. She has been in the field since 1988. She has an AS degree in Physical Education and holds certifications from The American Council on Exercise as a Group exercise instructor, Personal Trainer, and Weight Management Councilor. She is a certified Medical Exercise Specialist through AAHFP and a traditionally trained Pilates instructor with over 650 hours of training. Cyndi also does over 45 hours of continuing education each year. As the Group Exercise Director she is responsible for over 70 classes a week. In addition, she is available for personal training and private pilates sessions. When she is not exercising or training, Cyndi is the devoted mother of two daughters. Jessica who is a senior in high school and Kaley who is in the 4th grade. Together they enjoy water and snow skiing, camping biking and traveling.


Alison Turgeon, Aquatics Director

Alison joins us as our new Aquatics Director. Experienced in all aspects of water safety and program development, Alison has been in the industry since 1989 and has over ten years of aquatic management experience. She is a certified instructor in both water safety and lifeguard training. Aside from her management responsibilities, Alison has also coached age based swim teams and trained swimmers for Special Olympics. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing with her puppy, hiking, swimming, camping, and sports of all types.

 


Brenda Page, Kids Programming Director

Brenda has worked at the Yuba City Racquet Club for over 21 years with experience in all aspects of club management. She has spent many years growing the Kidz Klub, and childcare center. In 2000 she started growing the Kidz Time programs opening a licensed center and in 2005 opened our Pre-school (Tykes). She handles all the Kidz programs and also oversees the rentals of our great facilities, (3 locations). Brenda has lived in this area most of her life. She has been married to Randy for 26 years and has two grown children, a daughter Melanie and son Joe. Brenda enjoys traveling to the coast and Mountains when they get a chance.

 


Terry Townsend

Terry Townsend is our Maintenance Director here at the Yuba City Racquet Club, having been with us since October 1st of 2001. Terry has very quickly become an invaluable asset to the staff as we see him spear heading many projects that have been troublesome in the past and working with them till they are truly taken care of. He attends classes as he can to supplement his knowledge of things like chemicals and electrical. Terry has lived in our area for the last ten years, but hails to us from the Redwood City, California area where he was born. After graduating high school, Terry attended DeAnza College in Cupertino (AS), and then San Jose State University majoring in Business, Sales and Marketing. Terry has a fabulous wife Tarey and two daughters Ashley and Marissa, who enjoy accompanying Terry camping, hiking, fishing, riding horses, raising birds, playing tennis and landscaping.
